I International Seminar on Aviation Management

On the 19th of April the UITM in its campus in Kielnarowa organied I International Seminar on Aviation Management. The seminar guest of honor was Mr Bart Buyse - Lufhansa General Manager for Poland. The whole event took place in the  building of Center of International Education - the newest investition of the University.

The guests and students were welcomed by Professor Andrzej Szelc. He emphasized how intriguing area is aviation management and expressed his satisfaction with the fact that first such a seminar is organized at UITM.

Then a stage took a guest of honor, who prepared a very interesting presentation on the current and anticiapted situation of Lufthansa. Mr. Buyse also pointed out that Lufthansa plans to expand route network to Polish airports in the near future.

As successive speakers, professors Timmerman and Albrecht from Berlin-Brandenburg Aviation Alliance have presented. Gentelmen talked about their experiences with cooperation with universities and the SME market. The German guests represented firm that gathered couple dozens of companies from the aviation field. Aviation Management students will be able to take advantage of future internships in copmanies associated to BBAA.

During the break, the seminar held a press conference at which UITM President prof. Tadeusz Pomianek and General Director of Lufthansa in Poland, Mr. Bart Buyse signed agreement on cooperation. Lufthansa has agreed to serve as ambassador ofspecialty Aviation Management and substantive assistance in its development. Media representatives  asked numerous questions about both the details of cooperation and recruitment for English-language specialty in the coming academic year.

The first event after the break, was to honor winners of the Why Not the U.S., representing portals whynotfly.pl and whynotusa.pl. Students participating in the competition had to prepare an analysis of selected websites. Sales Director's of Why Not the U.S. - Mr. Tomasz Szybiak - gave the winner Mr Wojciech Rogoziński a first prize on the amount 3000 zł. Second place of Mrs. Claudia Kwoka and the third of Mrs Ostrowska Carolina were awarded by holiday internships in chosen company's department.

The second part of the seminar began prof. Ulrich Desel. Lecturer for several years employed in the UITM shared his experiences from the period of creating a study program for specialization AM. He stressed that in addition to the mandatory lectures and recitation classes, the students will deal with aviation project on each semsester, forcing them to use their knowledge in practice. Aviation Management students, from the next semester will be able to penetrate the secrets of aviation under the supervision of prof. Desel.

The next speaker, who honored us with his speech was Mr. Timmerman Klopp of MTU Aero Engines. Mr. Klopp presented a range of work handled in his company and presented a detailed structure of employment in Rzeszow's branch. He encouraged students to benefit from the practices in the company, for which recruitment continues throughout the year.

The last presentation before the break was provided by Mr. Jaroslaw Nowicki representing BARIP and Director of Brussels Airlines in Poland. In his lecture, he presented the essence of strategic management and its key role for managers in the aviation industry.

The last part of the seminar began Mr. Roland Stein. Long standing employee of Lufthansa Consulting, shared his insights and experiences from several decades of work for the German carrier. He advised the students what characteristics must be employed in individual market segments, and wished them perseverance in acquiring knowledge.

Then spoke Mr. Piotr Kozlowski. UITM Yield Management specialist and experienced consultant in aviation area tried to answer the qeustion if the Polish market is already matured when compared to the European one.

Mr Lukasz Sikora as a representative of Rzeszow Airport Jasionka in his presentation discussed the current situation and presented a very ambitious expansion plans, both short and long term. This development will obviously increase the demand for well-educated personel.

The next speaker was Mr. Marek Serafin representing PRTL.pl. The Portal Page of Polish Air Transport Market is a true compendium of knowledge on the latest developments from the world of aviation. His presentation focused on the human factor in the management of the airline, and also shared his experiences earned in many years of work in the Polish airlines. Mr. Serafin after the end of the seminar decided to further motivate students to harder work. Details of the competition soon.

The last speaker was Raplf Schikorr from the German m2p Consulting GmbH. In his presentation he talked about the project CHAMPIONS - designed to expand the intermodal connections in Central and Eastern Europe. He presented in details its structure and stressed how important is a cooperation between science and aiport management.

The entire seminar was found as a great success. It was another milestone in developing of speciality Aviation Management offered by the University of IT and Management in Rzeszow.
